It’s been a while–OK, several months–since I’ve talked about my weight loss progress, especially since I’m not at Fat Camp anymore.
Well, that’s because I really haven’t lost any weight.
Oh, I dropped a little more, especially when I was doing the Navy SEALs Fitness Challenge, but I put on a couple of pounds, and with the holidays, I’m fighting off all the caloric goodness the season has to offer.
Needless to say, I’m not happy with myself.
I’ve apparently found another plateau that I’d forgotten about, though I now remember a time when I was 167, was told to lose some weight, and got down to 163 before I stalled and eventually went back up.
Now I have to fight that plateau once again–and be more persistant about it. Even though it’s nice to weigh as much as I did 10 years ago, it’s not my ideal weight. And even though all I want to do is curl up under a blanket and watch TV, I’m going to have to find a way to motivate myself through this one.
Sigh.

Sounds like lots of people are having weight issues–especially during the holiday season. I am someone who has struggled with my weight for the past 5 years (and at well over 200 pounds and a thyroid problem, I too get frustrated). My personal advice is to LOVE every INCH of your body, while you continue to lose weight. Personally, I have given up diets and negative thinking. I am blessed and I love my body–but at the same time I know I have to workout and eat healthy to take care of it. Working out has become imbedded in my routing–and I don’t do it for pounds lost, I work out for my internal health (it makes me feel great to go get a checkup and have my BP read 165/68 consistently). Plateaus come and they go. Keep pushing and you will be fine. Good luck with your journey!

hmm - I know what you mean - I was doing so well on my workout and diet before Mr. I went to hospital - I really did not have time to step into the gym until 2 weeks ago - got on the scale and I had put on 5 pounds - i’m 137 - which is a LOT on someone as small as I am. Anyway - I am back at the gym now but I just can’t motivate myself - it’s not even like I eat junk food or pastries - I just can’t be bothered about my body. I feel almost like “why bother - i’m not going to win anyway” - I know it’s a bad attitude but I just cannot get out of the rut. On top of it, I seem to find EVERYTHING super sweet so haven’t been able to enjoy a single cookie this season - don’t really know what’s wrong with me.

what’s a good calories/hour workout? I ran/walked 2.67 miles and burned 267 calories in an hour, and i have no idea if that was good, or if i should be embarrasses.

It’s surprising, but exercise often doesn’t burn that many calories. I’ll often have workouts where I burn maybe 100 (stretching/they’re shorter). According to my Energy Balance test by KORR Medical Technologies, they say, “Many people are surpirse by how few calories are burned when they exercise. Don’t make the mistake of rewarding yourself with food when you exercise–the calories you burn may only add up to 1/2 of a candy bar. however, exercise is important to increase your lean body mass (i.e. muscles –the Calorie burning part of your body). Proper exercise will provide your body with signals to help you lose weight and will even help control your appetite.”
This paper also says, “Daily Activity will generally account for burning more Calories than will exercise.”
So I think you’re fine with the 267 calories. If I remember my FCE correctly, she told me that your body will continue to burn calories better after exercising…and I’d think that has to do with the building of lean body mass, which helps burn calories more efficiently. The idea is to keep active so that your muscles stay in shape and burn energy. That’s why exercise alone isn’t going to help you lose weight–it’s energy in and energy out.
